About the Role

The University of British Columbia seeks a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Black Student Success Advisor. This role is crucial in supporting the academic, personal, and professional growth of Black students within our vibrant campus community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive guidance and support to Black students throughout their academic journey, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
  • Develop and implement programs, workshops, and initiatives that foster a sense of belonging and empower Black students to thrive academically and personally.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to create an inclusive and supportive environment for Black students.
  • Advocate for the needs of Black students within the university and broader community.
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities to attract and retain Black students.
  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports on program effectiveness.

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, coupled with a deep understanding of the experiences of Black students in post-secondary education. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with Black students or communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing educational equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in program development, delivery, and assessment.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
