Senior Media Relations Specialist

The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled Senior Media Relations Consultant to join our Communications and Sector Relations Branch. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the ministry's communications strategy and promoting its initiatives to the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a ministry contact and arrange media interviews to effectively communicate the ministry's message and goals.
  • Research and prepare a wide range of written materials, including news releases, backgrounders, and media interview guides, to support the ministry's communications objectives.
  • Monitor issues and trends in media coverage and correspondence to ensure the ministry's message is being effectively conveyed.
  • Develop and implement communications plans to support the goals and objectives of the ministry, including the development of key messages, media advisories, and press releases.
  • Write and edit other written communications materials, such as speeches, talking points, and social media content, to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • A certificate or degree in journalism or communications, or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to prepare a wide range of written materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with ministry staff, media, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of government communications principles and practices, including media relations, crisis communications, and social media.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in government communications or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous knowledge systems, cultures, and languages, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a government communications context.
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language, or the ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous communities.
