About the Role:

The Indigenous Education Worker will provide support to Indigenous students and their families, promoting academic success and well-being. This role involves working closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement individualized education plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain liaison with teachers, counselors, administrators, Indigenous students, and their families to advocate for their needs.
  • Support classroom teachers in meeting the educational needs of Indigenous students.
  • Conduct home and community visits to engage with families and promote parental involvement.
  • Provide traditional Indigenous guidance to students and their families.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of academic and social interventions for Indigenous students with unique challenges.
  • Transport students as needed and work with school staff to establish a work schedule.
  • Evaluate and report on individual Indigenous students' progress.
  • Promote and develop Indigenous cultural events in the school district.
  • Participate in screening and review meetings as required.
  • Facilitate parental involvement in Indigenous Parent Advisory Committees.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including a minimum of 12 credits in First Nations courses and 30 credits in youth-related courses.
  • Two years of experience working with Indigenous children and/or youth.
  • Valid British Columbia driver's license.
  • Knowledge of local Indigenous cultures and the needs of Indigenous students and their families.
  • Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with school staff, Indigenous students, and their families.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Mature judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
