About the Role:The Indigenous Education Worker will provide support to Indigenous students and their families, promoting academic success and well-being. This role involves working closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement individualized education plans.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain liaison with teachers, counselors, administrators, Indigenous students, and their families to advocate for their needs.
- Support classroom teachers in meeting the educational needs of Indigenous students.
- Conduct home and community visits to engage with families and promote parental involvement.
- Provide traditional Indigenous guidance to students and their families.
- Assist in the development and implementation of academic and social interventions for Indigenous students with unique challenges.
- Transport students as needed and work with school staff to establish a work schedule.
- Evaluate and report on individual Indigenous students' progress.
- Promote and develop Indigenous cultural events in the school district.
- Participate in screening and review meetings as required.
- Facilitate parental involvement in Indigenous Parent Advisory Committees.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including a minimum of 12 credits in First Nations courses and 30 credits in youth-related courses.
- Two years of experience working with Indigenous children and/or youth.
- Valid British Columbia driver's license.
- Knowledge of local Indigenous cultures and the needs of Indigenous students and their families.
- Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships with school staff, Indigenous students, and their families.
- Effective communication skills in English.
- Mature judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
