Role Summary

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Technology and Operations (T&O) team is embarking on several intricate, organization-wide projects as part of the Royal Bank of Canada's strategic initiative to enhance technology governance and IT risk management. We are looking for a proactive individual who is eager to take initiative, provide outstanding client service, and become a dependable asset to our team. You will collaborate with various T&O teams utilizing a diverse range of technologies.

In this capacity, you will be accountable for the strategic planning and successful execution of the aforementioned initiatives. The role involves coordinating, developing, leading, communicating, and executing activities to ensure that objectives are met within established timelines. This is an opportunity to engage with multiple T&O teams across a spectrum of technologies, both emerging and established, thereby broadening your exposure and gaining invaluable experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate technology updates (server maintenance, certificate renewals, compliance checks, etc.) with a strong focus on automation opportunities.
  • Establish a vision for the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) product suite (monitoring, alerting, machine learning anomaly detection, self-healing mechanisms, reliability testing).
  • Oversee code and non-functional (performance, security, maintainability, compliance, change management) evaluations of all production-ready SRE solutions.
  • Drive transformation by persistently seeking automation of existing workflows.
  • Guide the team through the execution of the SRE strategic roadmap.
  • Monitor, audit, and implement technical workstreams effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS

Essential Skills:

  • Strong expertise and hands-on experience with Ansible Tower / Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Practical experience with a variety of SRE programming languages and tools (e.g., Ansible, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty).
  • Hands-on experience in Software Engineering (SDLC, Architecture, Design, Development).
  • Advanced knowledge of the following SRE practices and technologies:
  • Python, YAML, Shell scripting, Azure, Linux.
  • Kubernetes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a matrixed environment, such as a large, publicly-traded corporation.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like ServiceNow, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Blue Prism, etc.
  • Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer).
  • AWS certifications (e.g., DevOps Engineer, Solution Architect, SysOps Administrator).
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate across functions and business units.
