Overview
As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our regional Health and Safety Manager and business teams in implementing robust health and safety management systems and processes. Your expertise will guide operations to ensure compliance with Lafarge Group Standards, country-level policies, and jurisdictional regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct health and safety coaching to operational site leadership, safety committee representatives, and embedded safety personnel.
- Assist with the facilitation and coordination of comprehensive training programs, including annual startups, supervisor seminars, visual personal commitment initiatives, and Boots on the Ground activities.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country-wide implementation.
- Guide operations to meet Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), country, and Group expectations.
- Assist in facilitating serious incident investigations, including recordable injuries, near misses, and critical incidents.
- Support compliance with OHS inspections and potential orders.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct COR audits to ensure annual rebates for the region.
- Collaborate with regional operations in preparing for Group HSMS audits and developing action plans for continuous improvement.
- Participate in North America HSMS audits, identifying compliance gaps against Group health and safety standards.
- Support the Health & Safety Manager and regional operations in developing and implementing H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Provide support and guidance to regional operations in claim management and injury prevention strategies.
- Assist the HS Manager in implementing both country and regional HSE-IP (Health, Safety & Environment - Integrated Performance) objectives.
- Utilize internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
- Support regional operations in implementing and maintaining programs such as Sitedocs, Icare, Avetta, etc.
- Develop and share regional communications with all stakeholders, including key lessons learned, best practices, alerts, and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
Relationships with Other Jobs
Collaborate closely with the WCAN HS Team and Head of Health & Safety to determine country priorities and action plans. Develop and maintain positive relationships with local regulatory agencies. Engage effectively with front-line leadership and workers through regular on-site presence (minimum of 8 hours per week). Collaborate with other functional regional support teams and business partners, such as Human Resources, Procurement, and Environment.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary certification (degree, diploma, certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience working as a health & safety professional. Construction industry experience is highly valued.
- CRSP (Certified Risk and Safety Professional) designation is preferred; CSO (Certified Safety Officer) or NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) certifications are also desirable.
- COR auditor certification is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills. Proficiency in Google Platform, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of OHS regulations and best practices.
