About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon to join our team in the Western Zone. This is a permanent, 0.75 full-time equivalency (FTE) position that requires the successful candidate to share the on-call rotation, existing OR allocation at Valley Regional Hospital and satellite locations, fracture clinic, and Hip & Knee clinic.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality orthopedic care to patients in the Western Zone, including primary hip and knee arthroplasty, trauma coverage, and ideally some foot and ankle or additional other subspecialty expertise. The candidate must hold expertise in amputation and/or be willing to undergo additional training to demonstrate competence in this area of need in the Zone.

The first six months of the position will be considered probationary before the position is made permanent.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality orthopedic care to patients in the Western Zone
  • Participate in call shifts
  • Support Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health in advancing the delivery of orthopedic surgery care by liaising with applicable staff within the zone and province
  • Offer consultation support to Western Zone, including day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • Be accountable to the patient population in Western Zone by providing clinics and occasional satellite clinics that require travel
  • Be responsible to the Zone Surgery Department Head (or delegate) and ZMED for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • Operate within the Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health
Qualifications
  • Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • Be a member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
