Job Summary

The City of Hamilton is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Building Attendant to join our team. As a key member of our property management team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining the building's facilities, and ensuring the safety and security of our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as master keyholder and provide access to tenants, servicemen, and contractors
  • Monitor fire alarm systems and respond to emergencies in accordance with the Building's Fire Safety Plan
  • Conduct daily inspections for fire safety and maintenance deficiencies
  • Perform minor repairs, such as clearing drains and toilet plunging
  • Assist with light housekeeping duties, including cleaning up spills and sorting recyclables
  • Deliver letters and notices to tenants as required
  • Work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and City of Hamilton policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Previous maintenance and customer service experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to speak, write, and understand English
  • Understanding of basic emergency procedures, such as fire alarms
  • Ability to perform daily inspections and minor repairs
  • Must be physically capable of carrying out light housekeeping duties
  • Must be available to provide shared coverage for the building, including evenings and weekends

Working Conditions

The Building Attendant must live in the building within which they are working/assigned. In exchange for the specific duties provided, the City of Hamilton will provide the Building Attendant residential accommodation in an apartment, including heat, hydro, water, and a monthly phone allowance.

  • The Building Attendant must obtain a satisfactory Criminal Records & Judicial Matters Check prior to beginning work in this position
  • Payment for other duties as authorized will be paid as per completed time sheets
