Provincial Medical Director for Psychiatry

The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Psychiatrist to lead our provincial mental health initiatives. Reporting directly to the Program Medical Director for Supportive Care, this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of psychiatric care within BC Cancer.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across various BC Cancer centres, ensuring seamless delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in clinical, educational, and research activities within the field of Psychiatry.
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse healthcare professionals to develop and implement best practices for mental health support within a cancer care setting.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in psychiatric treatment and integrate evidence-based practices into our programs.
  • Develop and maintain clinical guidelines, protocols, and policies that align with national standards and PHSA objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among staff.
  • Identify and pursue research opportunities to advance knowledge and improve patient outcomes in mental health within the context of cancer care.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong commitment to reconciliation in Canada and a deep understanding of social determinants of health impacting Indigenous communities.
  • Relevant medical certifications and licensure in good standing.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
