Job Summary

The Assistant Librarian - Copyright and Education is a key role at Trinity Western University, responsible for providing expert guidance on copyright compliance, education, and information literacy initiatives. This position serves as the University's copyright compliance officer, primary liaison with the School of Education, and oversees the Curriculum Resource Centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reference and Information Services
    • Provide reference and information services at the Research Help Desk, including evenings and weekend work as required.
    • Offer reference and information services in-person and virtually, both by appointment and drop-in.
    • Participate in AskAway, B.C.'s academic virtual reference service.
  • Information Literacy Initiatives
    • Develop and manage information literacy initiatives across the university's curriculum, including individual and group orientation and instruction related to the Library and its resources.
    • Expand and develop web-based and print reference and instructional materials.
  • Copyright Compliance
    • Identify materials covered under current copyright legislation and existing licenses.
    • Determine the copyright holder for a given item and obtain copyright permissions and digital clearances as needed.
    • Produce digitized versions of requested materials and track all details of permission requests.
  • Education Liaison
    • Act as primary liaison librarian to the School of Education, providing assistance with specialized orientation and information literacy sessions, research assistance, and resourcing School of Education initiatives.
  • Curriculum Resource Centre
    • Oversee all CRC functions, including managing Curriculum and Project Curriculum funds, selecting, acquiring, organizing, and weeding materials, and monitoring CRC expenditures.
  • Leadership and Collaboration
    • Serve on library and university committees as directed by the University Librarian.
    • Pursue professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Education: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent).
  • Experience: 2-3 years' experience in an academic library, with experience in an education library or curriculum resource centre highly desirable.
