Teaching Stream Assistant Professor Position

Join Our Academic Community
We invite applications for a probationary appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream within the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC), part of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. We are looking for candidates who possess a Master's degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field. We also welcome applicants with diverse educational experiences, provided they have a solid foundation in mathematics.
Teaching Experience Required
Ideal candidates will have prior teaching experience at either the post-secondary or secondary education levels. Additionally, familiarity with Indigenous student engagement in Canada or knowledge of Indigenization in mathematics and computing education is highly valued.
Indigenous Community Engagement
The successful candidate will ideally be First Nations, Métis, or Inuk (Inuit), possessing a profound understanding of Indigenous worldviews, cultures, and values, along with strong connections to Indigenous communities. We encourage applicants to highlight their Indigenous identity in their cover letter, and additional documentation may be requested during the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer candidates with experience in educational outreach or enrichment activities related to mathematics and computing at the elementary or secondary school levels. Responsibilities will include a standard teaching load, leadership in Indigenization initiatives, collaboration with various university units, and active participation in CEMC programs.
Additional Responsibilities
Depending on the candidate's expertise, additional duties may involve mentoring Indigenous students and consulting with colleagues on the integration of Indigenous pedagogies.
