Job Summary:

The University of Ottawa is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join its Facilities team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various mechanical devices and systems across campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform physical inspections of building service rooms and areas to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Verify daily environmental controls and ensure readings are within accepted standards.
  • Perform periodic and seasonal preventive maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance such as filter and belt changing, greasing, etc.

Requirements:

  • Valid Third Class Operating Engineer license issued by TSSA.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining building systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethics with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Sound knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
  • Working knowledge of building HVAC systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical and mechanical equipment controls and systems.
  • Ability to strictly comply with relevant University policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on a ladder or scaffold at various heights, and lift under 30 kg.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
