Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and will be supported by a dedicated team of accounting clerks and a payroll administrator. This role is crucial in ensuring that our financial operations are efficient and transparent, allowing us to fulfill our mission effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage all financial operations, ensuring timely and precise reporting of cash flow, budgets, forecasts, and other essential financial data for informed decision-making.
  2. Act as an advisor to senior leadership, conducting quarterly reviews of program financial reports and strategizing on addressing any discrepancies.
  3. Prepare year-end financial statements in compliance with GAAP and Canadian accounting standards for non-profit organizations.
  4. Coordinate with funders regarding tax receipts, ministry reporting, and other financial obligations.
  5. Serve as the primary liaison with the Finance Audit Committee, funders, and external auditors as needed.
  6. Oversee all grant applications for various government bodies, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  7. Ensure meticulous tracking of all funding received, keeping funders informed and meeting charitable requirements promptly.
  8. Optimize the use of accounting (Sage) and payroll (Payworks) systems to maintain the integrity and reliability of financial data.
  9. Lead payroll management and ensure compliance with internal financial policies.
  10. Oversee compliance, risk management, and audit requirements for the organization.
  11. Assist the Executive Director in preparing financial reports for the Board and attend Board meetings as necessary.
  12. Negotiate with financial institutions for credit lines and other services as appropriate.
  13. Lead the transition of Sage 300 ERP to a cloud-based system.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will possess a blend of the following qualifications:
  1. Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA).
  2. Experience in accounting within a non-profit environment, particularly in a managerial role.
  3. Strong understanding of risk management, fiscal responsibility, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  4. Knowledge of GAAP and relevant federal and provincial regulations pertaining to non-profit accounting.
  5. Experience mentoring teams and advising on accounting matters across the organization.
  6. Able to align business objectives with accounting practices and policies.
  7. Familiarity with risk management and compliance issues.
  8. Proficient in using Sage ERP systems and Payworks.
  9. Excellent technical writing skills, with experience in drafting policies and proposals.
  10. Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including government bodies and community agencies.
Compensation and Benefits:
The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $78K to $85K, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include comprehensive health coverage, three weeks of vacation, a pension plan after six months, and support for CPA dues and professional development opportunities.
