As the oldest and largest payment provider for performers in Canada, Talent Payment Services (TPS) boasts a team of seasoned professionals ready to assist clients with the Canadian talent payment process from inception to completion. Position Overview
The Business Affairs division at TTC operates in a dynamic environment, providing support for both Union and non-union Talent Business Affairs, as well as Production Business Management, Traffic, and Network Clearance services. We cater to advertising agencies, media agencies, in-house teams, PR firms, production companies, and other creative partners. This role serves as the crucial link between TTC's signatory companies and clients needing signatory assistance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in broadcast business affairs and talent payments, with a solid understanding of ACTRA, UDA, SAG-AFTRA, and AFM/CFM agreements, along with labor laws pertinent to the advertising sector. Proficiency in Excel, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to engage effectively with clients and diverse personalities are essential.

Client Management Responsibilities

  • Oversee clients' union or non-union talent-related business matters, including talent estimating, reporting, and actualizing, with a comprehensive understanding of relevant agreements and local tax and labor laws.
  • Manage the lifecycle of jobs from opening to closing, including tracking and reconciling.
  • Estimate sessions and usage accurately.
  • Generate all necessary documentation, including casting specifications, talent contracts, production reports, and completion reports.
  • Review and maintain the accuracy of the internal asset database, addressing any missing information or expirations with clients.
  • Evaluate, manage, and resolve union claims effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all client and union deadlines.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to clients regarding talent jobs, union regulations, labor laws, and best practices.
  • Negotiate and manage scale and overscale contracts.
  • Handle rights and permissions requests from clients.
  • Proactively manage all account transition documentation.
  • Deliver ongoing training to clients on business affairs and talent payment processes.
  • Assist with immediate departmental needs as required.
  • Be available for client inquiries, concerns, and follow-ups.
  • Stay informed about industry trends.

Staff/Internal Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teammates to troubleshoot challenges and share solutions.
  • Provide assistance and guidance on large projects within your area of expertise.
  • Maintain organized and accurate talent and commercial files.

New Business Responsibilities

  • Ensure client retention through proactive problem-solving and excellent client service.
  • Expand client business into other areas of Business Affairs expertise, such as music licensing and production services, by thoroughly understanding client needs.
  • Participate in new business meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in developing leads and researching potential clients as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience with U.S. and Canadian performer unions (SAG-AFTRA, ACTRA, UDA, AFM/CFM).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in advertising or entertainment talent payroll.
  • University-level business education or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Advertising Talent Agreements and U.S. commercial union agreements.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Positive attitude and exceptional client service skills.
  • Professional interaction with team members and management in a business setting.
  • Strong PC skills and a willingness to learn new software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Special Work Conditions

Compensation
Compensation is based on various factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, and geographic cost of labor. The compensation range for this position is $65,000—$75,000 CAD.
