Job Title: Caribou Biologist

Job Summary:

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled Caribou Biologist to join our team. As a key member of our Wildlife branch, you will be responsible for managing and delivering the provincial boreal woodland caribou program. Your expertise will be crucial in developing range management unit plans and delivering the Manitoba Boreal Woodland Caribou Recovery Strategy.

Responsibilities:

* Manage and deliver the provincial boreal woodland caribou program
* Develop range management unit plans
* Deliver the Manitoba Boreal Woodland Caribou Recovery Strategy
* Provide guidance and support on boreal woodland caribou issues
* Establish partnerships with indigenous communities, conservation organizations, and industry

Requirements:

* Master's degree in biological sciences, natural resource management, or related discipline
* Experience with caribou/ungulate ecology, management, capture, and population surveys
* Experience with land management and conservation planning
* Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to take initiative and work independently, and as a member of a team
* Effective verbal communication skills
* Experience in organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines, plan and track budgets, and prepare financial reports
* Effective interpersonal skills, including experience in developing and maintaining effective cooperative working relationships with diverse groups
* Strong written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to draft scientific reports, plain language documents, and materials for diverse audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

* Knowledge and understanding of species-at-risk issues in Manitoba
* Experience in interpreting and applying provincial and federal natural resource management and species at risk legislation and policy
* Experience supervising staff and training or mentoring scientific and technical personnel
* Technical knowledge of geographic information systems, data analysis, and data management
