Director of Land Development Operations

Position Overview:
WSP Canada is in search of a dedicated Manager specializing in Land Development and Municipal Engineering. This role is pivotal in overseeing the Lethbridge office's operations, reporting directly to the Director of Land Development and Municipal Engineering for Southern Alberta. The ideal candidate will possess over 15 years of extensive experience in engineering, project oversight, and client relations, and will be tasked with leading a team of 20 professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and execute strategies for business growth, ensuring alignment with other internal departments.
- Oversee and execute projects related to transportation, land development, and municipal infrastructure, which includes crafting reports and proposals, engaging with clients, and managing projects effectively.
- Assess and regulate the overall workload and staffing within the department to achieve optimal utilization rates.
- Collaborate with leadership and fellow managers to facilitate inter-office cooperation and resource sharing, ensuring project delivery goals are met across the discipline.
- Take accountability for the financial and operational success of the department, including meeting established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Manage resources comprehensively, including recruitment, team development, performance assessments, and salary reviews.
- Implement and monitor career development initiatives for staff to enhance skills, ensure effective succession planning, and improve staff retention.
- Provide strong leadership and foster collaboration with various disciplines.
- Guide, develop, and empower a diverse team of professionals and technical support personnel.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering or a Certificate in Engineering Technology, complemented by 15+ years of consulting or municipal experience, including 8+ years in a managerial or mentoring capacity.
- Proven ability to work autonomously.
- Experience in business development is essential.
- Capability to mentor and guide staff effectively.
- Demonstrated success in client management, customer service, and the preparation of proposals and reports.
- In-depth knowledge of municipal clients and the market in the region.
- Extensive experience in project management, particularly in Transportation, Land Development, and Municipal engineering design and construction, with a focus on water, sanitary, and stormwater projects.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
