Cloud Operations Engineer

CB Canada is seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer for a full-time permanent role that offers full remote flexibility across Canada.

Cloud Operations Engineer - Role Overview

  • We are in search of a proactive Cloud Operations Engineer (COE) who employs engineering methodologies to address supportability challenges, with a proven track record of engineering excellence and experience in managing cloud-based services. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance and maintain supportability improvements through data-driven strategies, collaborating closely with Software Engineers to create and deliver solutions that adhere to best practices, ensuring high availability, reliability, scalability, and compliance with our policies.
  • Your focus will be on fostering continuous enhancements throughout the service lifecycle with an emphasis on automation. You will need to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities, possess deep technical skills, and maintain a strong supportability-first mindset.

Cloud Operations Engineer - Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with various engineering teams to develop and improve tools and automation solutions aimed at expediting customer issue resolution and preventing future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with external platform teams to create support tools that can be customized to meet specific requirements.
  • Design and implement modifications to service telemetry for automation purposes when necessary.
  • Enhance the customer experience through proactive alerting based on usage patterns, trends, and resource health.
  • Analyze data to provide operational insights into customer experiences for Design and Product teams, ensuring that supportability is a key consideration in feature design.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for improving existing planning, processes, and automation.

Cloud Operations Engineer - Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Cloud Operations Engineering or Software Engineering, managing large-scale online or hybrid services in cloud environments (Azure), applying site reliability principles and demonstrating operational sensitivity. Experience in automation is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
  • Fluency in one or more automation languages, including PowerShell or Python.
  • A strong understanding of Observability and MELT (Monitoring, Events, Logging, and Tracing) design and implementation patterns for large-scale distributed services is highly desirable.
  • Experience with hypothesis-driven development and test-driven development is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Lean methodologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical abilities.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, evolving environment and willing to implement changes for improvement.
  • Intellectual curiosity and high emotional intelligence are essential traits for the successful candidate.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues.
  • Influence product architecture and roadmap to ensure customer-experienced supportability is prioritized in product evolution.
