Description

We are seeking an Indigenous Relations Manager to spearhead our initiatives aimed at fostering and nurturing significant relationships with Indigenous communities in Eastern Canada. This role is pivotal in our commitment to enhancing community engagement, supporting Indigenous enterprises, and promoting cultural understanding within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Alignment:

Collaborate to formulate and align strategies for Indigenous Relations that support organizational objectives. Lead the Eastern Canada Indigenous Relations Committee to ensure effective strategy execution. Engage in parent company initiatives to ensure coherence with broader corporate goals.

Community Engagement and Support:

Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous Business Suppliers and Partners through effective liaison with the supply chain and other departments. Participate in and support community initiatives and events that benefit Indigenous populations. Identify and facilitate connections with local Indigenous groups to establish strong, mutually beneficial partnerships. Research and set objectives to meet employment targets for Indigenous peoples, women, and minorities, ensuring alignment with strategic initiatives.

Awareness and Education:

Develop and implement Indigenous awareness and communication programs to educate staff about local heritage and culture. Conduct information sessions and ongoing communication initiatives for staff education. Invite speakers from Indigenous communities to share their heritage and culture with employees. Mentor the leadership team and support training programs to enhance understanding and engagement with Indigenous matters.

Mentorship and Employment:

Establish, mentor, and enhance goals for Indigenous employment within the organization. Collaborate with branch and site teams to create and sustain mentorship programs between cultural and community employees. Work with HR and branch teams to design and implement initiatives aimed at attracting, recruiting, and retaining Indigenous peoples, women, and minority employees.

Program Coordination and Reporting:

Assist in the development and execution of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business's (CCAB) Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, tracking progress against established goals and milestones. Coordinate participation in community outreach programs, ensuring alignment and support with our partners. Represent BrandSafway in community initiatives and events, acting as a liaison with Indigenous representatives to ensure regular communication. Report ongoing efforts to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Economic Relationships and Partnerships:

Engage in forming mutually beneficial economic partnerships with Indigenous groups, maintaining alignment with partnership objectives. Collaborate with the supply chain to foster relationships and increase procurement from Indigenous or minority-owned enterprises.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in Indigenous Relations, community engagement, or a related discipline. Strong comprehension of Indigenous cultures, communities, and business practices in Eastern Canada. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. Capacity to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external stakeholders. Experience in creating and implementing training and mentorship initiatives. Familiarity with CCAB's Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program is advantageous.
