Indigenous Relations Specialist

BrandSafway is seeking an experienced Indigenous Relations Manager to lead our efforts in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities in Eastern Canada. This role will play a crucial part in our commitment to supporting Indigenous businesses, enhancing community engagement, and promoting cultural awareness within our organization.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Development and Alignment: Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategies that support company goals and objectives.
- Community Engagement and Support: Foster relationships with Indigenous Business Suppliers and Partners, participate in community events and programs, and identify opportunities to introduce local Indigenous groups to our organization.
- Awareness and Education: Lead and deliver Indigenous awareness and communication programs to educate staff about local heritage and culture, and develop and conduct information sessions and periodic communication sessions for staff education.
- Mentorship and Employment: Set, mentor, and improve goals for Indigenous employment within the company, and work with branch and site teams to develop and maintain mentorship programs between cultural and community employees.
- Program Coordination and Reporting: Assist in the development and implementation of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business's (CCAB) Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, and coordinate efforts and participation in community and outreach programs.
- Economic Relationships and Partnerships: Participate in forming mutually beneficial economic relationships with Indigenous groups, and coordinate with the supply chain to develop relationships and increase spending with Indigenous or minority-owned companies.
- Proven experience in Indigenous Relations, community engagement, or a related field.
- Post-secondary education and/or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, and business practices in Eastern Canada.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners.
- Experience in developing and implementing training and mentorship programs.
- Familiarity with CCAB's Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program is an asset.
