The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central entity committed to delivering high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS collaborates with other IT groups within Western's faculties and support units to leverage centrally supported technology solutions and services where it is beneficial. Responsibilities The Marketing Communications Coordinator oversees the creation, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of communication strategies and initiatives for Western Technology Services (WTS) aimed at promoting WTS technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. This role will work closely with leaders and subject matter experts in WTS and other university areas to design, create, and evaluate communications and marketing efforts, develop a cohesive communication strategy utilizing all available channels (e.g., web, email, social media, print, etc.), manage campus-wide communications projects, and provide guidance on related matters. The Marketing Communications Coordinator will collaborate to develop and implement new and revised communication strategies, plans, processes, and best practices while protecting, promoting, and enhancing the brand and reputation of WTS, and in turn Western, by managing communications and ensuring compliance with University policies and guidelines. Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Affairs, English/Literature, Journalism/Media, or a related field
  • International Association of Business Communicators Designation completed or in progress
Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in developing and implementing communication and marketing strategic plans with responsibilities for managing staff and projects
  • Experience in an IT and/or University environment is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of e-communication tools including website design architecture, graphic design principles, and social media platforms relevant to University populations
  • Understanding of media relations, public affairs, and marketing trends and best practices
  • Strong writing skills, including grammar, style, argumentation, coherence, and attention to detail, with excellent command of the English language
  • Project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within strict timelines
  • Ability to manage expenditures and resources within allotted budgets, making necessary adjustments when required
  • Ability to provide constructive guidance, support, and feedback
  • Ability to establish effective communication routines with all team members to maximize productivity
  • Media skills with sound judgment to present and package information effectively
  • Persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams both inside and outside the University
  • Ability to analyze metrics and past communications to craft engaging written content using social media or other appropriate channels
  • Creativity in recommending strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
  • Innovative and adaptable critical thinking skills to implement new processes or technology to the University's advantage
  • Demonstrated intercultural competency and understanding of cross-cultural research and work practices
  • Discretion, tact, and maturity in handling public relations issues related to higher education
  • Ability to remain motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
  • Flexibility to work around the University's events and activities
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and use relevant software that meets required outcomes and aligns with best practices
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and third-party mass mailing services
  • Ability to develop strategies that align with WTS's mission while balancing competing priorities
  • Proven ability to build both formal and informal professional relationships within and outside organizational boundaries
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures is preferred
