Position Overview

The Eastern Canada District is engaged in a variety of projects encompassing highways, bridges, mass transit systems, mine site development, open pit operations, hydroelectric facilities, wind energy plants, dams, and industrial constructions. These initiatives cater to the construction and mining sectors across Eastern Canada, including various provinces.

Location

This role is based in Laval, QC.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee estimators in the preparation of check estimates for various projects, reviewing estimates from other estimating teams or joint venture partners to ensure data completeness and procedural accuracy.
  • Analyze owner plans and specifications to gain a thorough understanding of the project, developing a construction plan that serves as the foundation for the estimate.
  • Examine all bid and contract documents along with legal opinions from the home office.
  • Conduct site assessments prior to establishing an operational plan to identify any potential issues or unusual conditions.
  • Employ engineering techniques and procedures for investigations while adhering to standard company policies.
  • Execute design tasks as required by the project that extend beyond the estimator's expertise, addressing significant technical challenges during bid preparation.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, including new equipment, methodologies, and procedures.
  • Prepare specialized engineering studies or reports as necessary for specific bid items or conditions.
  • Engage with owners regarding various issues encountered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related construction technology field, or extensive relevant work experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and proven experience with infrastructure projects, including highways, mass transit, hydro power generation, heavy civil works, and concrete structures.
  • Experience in building and self-performing tasks is preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with various estimating software systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Functional knowledge of English (both written and verbal) is advantageous, as mobility across provinces in Canada is necessary. Language training can be provided if needed.
