The Metlakatla Development Corporation is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Regulatory & Compliance Referrals Coordinator. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for evaluating regulatory Environmental Management Plans throughout various project phases, ensuring adherence to environmental standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the triage and review of referrals and consultations. Engage in collaborative meetings, conduct site assessments, and liaise with technical representatives from project proponents and regulatory bodies. Prepare reports and deliver presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Facilitate coordination with internal departments and external organizations to enhance participation in baseline environmental assessments and monitoring efforts.
  • Provide insights on the technical competencies required for contractors involved in environmental evaluations.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams on environmental initiatives and permitting assessments.
  • Manage the receipt, tracking, evaluation, and response to incoming referrals and project development requests.
  • Ensure the referrals-tracking software operates effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with other departments to align with strategic objectives and maintain consistency in regulatory responses. Integrate Traditional Use data with project submissions and environmental assessments to uphold Metlakatla Aboriginal Interests. Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Biology/Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Basic proficiency in GIS, Google Earth, and various software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in reviewing referral consulting packages and navigating regulatory processes associated with environmental assessments and permitting.
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal legislation, regulations, and consultation protocols regarding land and marine resource management.
  • Experience handling culturally sensitive information.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills to foster effective relationships with community stakeholders, colleagues, and government representatives.
  • Possession of a valid BC driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to undergo a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening, as a condition of employment.
  • Commitment to being fully COVID vaccinated and adhering to all public health guidelines and organizational policies throughout employment.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, a robust work ethic, and a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Proven capability to complete tasks and responsibilities within designated timeframes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a personal addiction-free lifestyle.
