Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Superintendent to join our team at Colas Western Canada Inc. in Terus Construction. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management and coordination of highway paving projects, ensuring operational activities, technical requirements, budget, and timelines are met.

Main Responsibilities
  • Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S Regulations, Safety Policy, and internal policies, as well as safety directives from owners and general contractors.
  • Provide leadership to crews and promote a positive safety culture among field staff and management.
  • Participate in tailgate safety meetings and hazard assessments as required.
  • Conduct daily site reviews to identify potential safety and environmental hazards.
  • Investigate and document incidents, and implement corrective actions.
  • Review project sites regularly to identify environmental concerns and implement mitigating measures.
  • Prepare and issue reports related to accidents, incidents, and environmental issues.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Foremen and staff to ensure compliance with project specifications and benchmarks.
  • Coordinate and schedule work activities, including materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate logistics for equipment and crew mobilization.
  • Assist in preparing project master schedules.
  • Monitor and update project schedules, providing two-week look-aheads.
  • Participate in weekly scheduling and coordination meetings.
  • Liaise with consultants, owners, customers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders regarding safety, project progress, scheduling, change orders, and other project issues.
  • Review QA/QC tests to ensure quality control requirements are met, and apply corrective actions when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot project concerns, including bad weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labor issues, contractor and client concerns, and other unforeseeable matters.
  • Maintain awareness of project cost/budget performance and implement strategies to complete the project within budget.
  • Address and resolve issues among work crew team members, administering discipline according to company guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with employees, clients, and internal or external resources.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Code of Ethics.
  • Assist in estimating projects for tender.
  • Perform duties safely around mobile equipment and maintain a high sense of safety awareness.
Requirements
  • Relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Ability to read and understand project specs and contract documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and clean current driver's abstract.
  • Computer skills: Outlook, Excel, Word.
