Environmental Program Coordinator

Are you dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering community involvement? As the Environmental Program Coordinator, you will spearhead a comprehensive volunteer initiative focused on tree planting throughout the city, prioritizing public education and community participation. In this crucial position, you will oversee the planning, assessment, and management of projects associated with the environmental program. Acting as the primary contact between the program, various organizations, sponsors, and community groups, you will leverage your outstanding customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities to ensure program success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise the execution of the environmental program and associated events
- Build and sustain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Oversee sponsor partnerships and explore opportunities for additional funding
- Develop innovative strategies to engage the community
- Plan, budget, and implement community outreach initiatives
- Assist in creating promotional materials for public events and activities
- Guide and mentor staff in their daily tasks
- Coordinate volunteer efforts and maintain partnership records
- Ensure adherence to city standards related to the environmental program
- Perform other related duties as necessary
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Project Management, Horticulture, Forestry, or a related field
- A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in community recreation and environmental education, including staff supervision
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, SLIM GeoMedia, and GIS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with volunteer management software to effectively coordinate volunteer activities
- A strong interest in advancing environmental education, particularly in urban forestry and horticulture
- Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, and executing special events with a focus on successful outcomes

- Leadership: Recruit, train, direct, assess, and provide guidance to staff and volunteers
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on significant issues and programs
- Communication: Clearly convey information, actively listen, and excel in public presentations and written communications
- Negotiation: Resolve conflicts and find common ground among diverse parties
- Relationship Building: Foster and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders
- Problem-Solving: Tackle and manage complex issues in high-profile situations
- Strategic Thinking: Align decisions with program objectives and stakeholder interests
- Program Development: Effectively develop, evaluate, and implement programs
- Public Engagement: Experience in public engagement and communication campaigns to promote initiatives
- Program Administration: Knowledge of program administration principles, including research, planning, and contract negotiation
- Software Proficiency: Utilize project management skills to create and implement processes that meet objectives
- Inclusivity: Demonstrate results in a respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented manner
- Cultural Alignment: Adhere to the city's cultural commitments and leadership competencies, embracing equity, diversity, reconciliation, and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid driver's license (or provincial equivalent) is required
- Work hours may vary, including evenings and weekends
