Are you dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering community involvement? As the Environmental Program Coordinator, you will spearhead a comprehensive volunteer initiative focused on tree planting throughout the city, prioritizing public education and community participation. In this essential position, you will oversee the planning, execution, and assessment of projects associated with the environmental program. Acting as the primary contact between the program, various organizations, sponsors, and community stakeholders, you will leverage your outstanding customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities to ensure program success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the implementation of the environmental program and associated events
  • Build and sustain relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Oversee sponsor relationships and explore opportunities for additional funding
  • Innovate and develop new strategies to engage the community
  • Plan, budget, and carry out community outreach initiatives
  • Assist in creating promotional materials for public events and activities
  • Guide and mentor staff in their daily tasks
  • Coordinate volunteer efforts and maintain partnership records
  • Ensure adherence to city standards related to the environmental program
  • Perform other related duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Project Management, Horticulture, Forestry, or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in community recreation and environmental education, including staff supervision
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, SLIM GeoMedia, and GIS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with volunteer management software to effectively coordinate volunteer activities
  • A strong interest in advancing environmental education, particularly in urban forestry and horticulture
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, and executing successful events with meticulous attention to detail

  • Communication: Clearly convey information, actively listen, and excel in public speaking, meeting facilitation, and written documentation

  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Problem-Solving: Tackle and manage complex issues in high-stakes situations
  • Strategic Thinking: Align decisions with program objectives and stakeholder interests
  • Program Development: Effectively develop, evaluate, and implement programs
  • Public Engagement: Experience in public engagement and communication strategies to promote programs
  • Program Administration: Knowledge of program administration principles, including research, planning, needs assessment, and contract negotiation
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize project management skills to create and implement processes that achieve objectives
  • Inclusivity: Demonstrate results in a respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented manner
  • Cultural Alignment: Uphold the city’s cultural commitments and leadership competencies, embracing equity, diversity, reconciliation, and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification
  • Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position. Successful candidates must also secure business auto insurance for personal vehicle use for City business as required
  • Work hours may vary, including evening and weekend shifts
