Are you dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and community involvement? As the Environmental Program Coordinator, you will spearhead a comprehensive volunteer initiative focused on tree planting across the city, emphasizing public education and community participation. In this essential position, you will oversee the planning, assessment, and management of projects associated with the urban forestry program. Acting as the primary contact between the program, various stakeholders, sponsors, and community organizations, you will leverage your outstanding customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities to ensure program success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and manage the execution of the Urban Forestry Program and associated events
  • Build and sustain relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Manage relationships with sponsors and explore new sponsorship opportunities
  • Innovate and implement strategies to engage the community effectively
  • Plan, budget, and execute outreach events for community involvement
  • Assist in the creation of promotional materials for public events and activities
  • Supervise and mentor staff in their daily functions
  • Coordinate volunteer initiatives and maintain partnership records
  • Ensure adherence to the City of Edmonton's standards related to the Urban Forestry Program and Naturalization guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Recreation, Project Management, Horticulture, Forestry, or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in community recreation and environmental education, including staff supervision
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, SLIM GeoMedia, and GIS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing volunteer management software to organize and coordinate volunteer efforts
  • A strong interest in advancing environmental education, particularly in urban forestry and horticulture
  • Demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and executing special events with meticulous attention to detail

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification
  • Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) is required. Candidates must also obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use as needed
  • Work hours may vary, including evening and weekend shifts
