The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to join our team at the Hearts in Rhythm Organization (HiRO) research office at St. Paul's Hospital. As a Research Assistant, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on national research projects, including data registries and biobanks. Your primary responsibilities will include participant recruitment, data entry, biobanking, and follow-up of study participants with inherited heart conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of REB applications and review study protocols to ensure compliance with TCPS2, FDA, Health Canada, GCP, and Institutional Guidelines.
- Establish standards of practice for protocols and work with hospital personnel to arrange logistics for studies.
- Prepare instructions for healthcare professionals on the research process and review healthcare information for potential study participants.
- Conduct informed consent processes, coordinate study visits, and conduct participant interviews.
- Collect and prepare biospecimens, complete data collection and case report forms, and ensure data quality and maintenance.
- Collaborate with the Research Project Team to assist clinical research endeavors and work closely with cardiology staff and faculty of UBC's Division of Cardiology and Hearts in Rhythm Organization.
To be successful in this role, you will require a relevant technical program or university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will also need to demonstrate a commitment to enhancing your awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred QualificationsA Health Science degree with specialized clinical experience/training in clinical research in the areas of cardiology and/or medical genetics and/or registries and biobanks is highly desirable. Clinical research professional certification (CCRP) and experience with RedCap and similar research databases are also assets.
