We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiology Technologist/Trainer to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a key member of our cardiology department, you will be responsible for performing electrocardiograms (ECGs) and related cardiology diagnostic testing procedures, as well as providing training and education to other clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities- Perform ECGs and related cardiology diagnostic testing procedures, including cardiopulmonary exercise tests, Holter hook-up and scanning, and cardiac screening.
- Assist cardiologists with pacemaker programming and monitoring, transesophageal pacing and atrial leads.
- Provide training and education to other clinical staff on the use of cardiology equipment for ECG tracings.
- Explain and perform ECGs on patients in BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital.
- Explain and perform cardiopulmonary exercise tests and/or treadmill stress tests by attaching electrodes to the patient and recording studies.
- Perform signal average ECGs, Holter hook-up and scanning and analysis for 24/48 hours recordings.
- Explain procedures to prepare patients for pacemaker and other cardiac rhythm devices interrogation and related tests; answer related questions.
- Instruct patients and parents in the use of cardiac screeners and records trans-telephonic transmissions. Inform cardiologist of any abnormalities.
- Scan and analyze ECG, stress, and/or Holter report; inform cardiologist of any abnormalities.
- Assist cardiologist during pacemaker clinic sessions by setting up the equipment, preparing the patients by applying pacemaker leads, performing ECGs and recording threshold tests; compile information for reports.
- Graduation from a recognized program in Cardiology Technology.
- Three (3) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience with ECG electronic record system. Experience with Hospital Information System (HIS) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
- Current registration with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists.
- Eligible for membership with the Cardiology Technologist Association of British Columbia (CTABC).
- Current qualifications in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Knowledge of and the ability to operate all equipment related to the position, including windows-based software packages such as word processing.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to working with new technology.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with all levels of staff and patients.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively and function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload and set priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and provide instructions.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children and families.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system.
