We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team on a 6-9 months contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. The successful candidate will assist in financial reporting, analysis, and general accounting tasks, offering an exciting opportunity for growth and professional development within our dynamic and fast-paced marine transportation company.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist with leading and managing the general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements in compliance with GAAP (ASPE) and company policies.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and support as required.
- Assist with daily treasury and cash flow forecasting.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as assigned by management.
- Assist with preparation of HST/QST and other compliance, tax and corporate filings.
- Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Extensive experience with ERP systems and financial reporting.
- Exceptional analytical skills, problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- CPA certification is a plus.
