About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead a team of professionals in the Commercial Banking division of Scotiabank. As an Associate Group Lead, you will be responsible for managing a team of Client Service Associates and providing guidance and support to Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Focus: Champion a customer-centric culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  2. Credit Proposal Advice: Provide advice and counsel to Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market on the presentation of credit proposals, including coaching, prompt feedback, and sound guidance on structuring deals.
  3. Credit Portfolio Oversight: Ensure the ongoing quality of the credit portfolio by providing oversight to the team on various aspects such as early identification of problem loans, appropriateness of risk ratings, timeliness of annual reviews, and reporting requirements.
  4. Team Management: Manage a team of Client Service Associates in Mid-Market, providing timely performance feedback and developing the skills of the team through coaching and guidance.
  5. Training and Development: Train on credit and operational skills and assist in the delivery of various training programs as requested to ensure continually learning opportunities for the team.
  6. Business Development: Contribute to business development opportunities by identifying and recommending referral opportunities and possible cross-sell options to the Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market.
  7. Operational Excellence: Champion the sustainment of the Target Operating Model by ensuring activities align to roles and responsibilities and adherence to guidelines and processes within the Team.
  8. Risk Management: Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  9. Operational Risk: Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
  10. High-Performance Environment: Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Requirements
  1. Education: University Degree with Business Background - MBA or professional designation preferred.
  2. Experience: 5+ years of experience in the Commercial banking industry.
  3. Credit Skills: Thorough knowledge of Commercial Banking Distribution structure as well as role of other groups within Commercial Banking.
  4. Sales Skills: Experienced Lender with strong overall Credit skills and Sales skills.
  5. Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of credit structures and applicable risk management.
  6. Coaching and People Management: Superior coaching and proven people management skills.
  7. Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills: Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  8. Negotiation and Problem Resolution Skills: Good negotiation and problem resolution skills.
  9. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  10. Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: Strong regulatory and compliance knowledge.
  11. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills.
  12. Industry Knowledge: Good knowledge of competitor offerings, alternative sources of financing, and industry knowledge.
  13. Language Skills: Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English, they will report to a manager from head office who is an English speaker, and/or they will serve an English-speaking clientele.
