Job Summary:
The Accounting Assistant will provide support to the General Manager and Corporate Controller in monitoring financial processes and controls at Nova Hotels. This role involves maintaining accurate income reports, journals, and account reconciliations, as well as ensuring proper systems and controls are in place to record transactions and safeguard assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a system of accounts and internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
- Monitor over/short accounts daily and inform the Controller.
- Verify guest and city ledger compliance with credit policies and procedures, ensuring all outstanding items are cleared by the last business day of the month.
- Balance the clearing account and ensure all entries are cleared or correctly allocated.
- Participate in month-end Food & Beverage Inventories and semi-annual Operating Stock Inventories.
- Audit bills for errors, correct as necessary, and ensure proper backup is attached to expense reports.
- Reconcile all statements, request missing invoices, and adjust as necessary.
- Verify hard copy bank statements against bank reconciliations and reconcile month-end ledger totals.
- Assist in Bi-Weekly Payroll process.
- Ensure all paperwork is filed correctly and maintain a neat and tidy work area.
- Maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a High School diploma and an intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Accounting/Bookkeeping/Payroll and Night Audit experience is an asset. The successful candidate will be energetic, flexible, and able to work under pressure.

Working Conditions:
The Accounting Assistant will typically work long periods of sitting, with some standing, walking, bending, or stooping. Occasional lifting of 5-10 lbs may be required.
