About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Backend Developer to join our team at BIMM, a Toronto-based agency that specializes in data-driven marketing and technology solutions. As a key member of our technology department, you will be responsible for leading the development of our backend systems and working closely with our product team, front-end engineers, and architects to deliver high-quality digital products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of our backend systems, including designing and implementing server-side frameworks and languages.
  • Collaborate with our product team to define and deliver high-performing backend services.
  • Work with our front-end engineers and architects to ensure seamless integration between backend and frontend systems.
  • Develop and maintain all server-side network components, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness to front-end requests.
  • Implement effective security protocols, data protection measures, and storage solutions.
  • Run diagnostic tests, repair defects, and provide technical support.
  • Document backend processes, including database schemas, and prepare reports.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to processes and technologies.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience with server-side frameworks and languages.
  • 3+ years of Node.js experience.
  • Experience working with GraphQL.
  • Prior experience as a team lead or lead architect supporting several developers.
  • Prior experience with a variety of tools used to perform unit testing, automated builds, and source control.
  • You can demonstrate experience from at least one large-scale project.
  • AWS knowledge - ideally some certifications or equivalent experience.
  • Developing high-performance applications by writing testable, reusable, and efficient code.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer Science Degree.
  • Familiarity with Apollo Studio.
  • Knowledge of Docker, k8s.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines preferably Github Actions.
  • Knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with GCP.
