Position Overview:

Our individual underwriting division is in search of innovative and enthusiastic professionals to join our esteemed underwriting team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform risk evaluation and categorization in alignment with Manulife's principles and standards.
  • Engage and collaborate with sales and corporate colleagues to ensure top-quality and competitive decisions for our clients.
  • Foster positive and effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver an outstanding customer experience by ensuring every interaction is meaningful.
  • Comply with consumer laws and regulations concerning risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to processes and challenges related to underwriting tasks.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience.
  • Authorization to sign for life insurance policies exceeding $1,000,000.
  • A sales-oriented mindset with a focus on building and maintaining business relationships in a competitive landscape.
  • Progress towards or completion of FALU, FLMI, and ACS designations.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, imaging, diagnostic tests, and treatments.
  • Understanding of how non-medical risks affect mortality, including hazardous occupations and lifestyle factors.
  • Experience with financial documentation and training in anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is advantageous, especially for candidates in Quebec.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus.
  • Authorization for $100,000+ Critical Illness policies.
  • A degree in a relevant field such as medical, research, or finance.
  • Strong negotiation capabilities.
  • Interest in representing the company at external events, panels, and conferences.
  • Experience in co-signing, referral reviews, and mentoring.
