Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team at the Hearts in Rhythm Organization (HiRO) research office at St. Paul's Hospital. As a Research Assistant, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on conducting national research projects, including data registries and biobanks. Your primary responsibilities will include participant recruitment, data entry, biobanking, and follow-up of study participants with inherited heart conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of research ethics board applications
  • Review study protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Establish standards of practice for protocols to ensure studies comply with TCPS2, FDA, Health Canada, GCP, and Institutional Guidelines
  • Coordinate logistics for studies, including arranging participant visits and data collection
  • Prepare instructions for healthcare professionals on the research process
  • Review healthcare information for potential study participants and conduct informed consent processes
  • Collect and manage biospecimens, and prepare them for transportation
  • Attend meetings, training, and workshops as required
  • Compose and type correspondence, develop study documents, forms, and data spreadsheets
  • Ensure data quality and maintenance

Requirements

  • Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with electronic data capture, medical record databases, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health Science degree, with specialized clinical experience/training in clinical research in the areas of cardiology and/or medical genetics and/or registries and biobanks
  • Clinical research professional certification (CCRP) desirable
  • Experience with RedCap and similar research databases an asset
