Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Labour Relations Director to join our team at Postmedia. As a key member of our Human Resources leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Labour Relations across Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute Labour Relations strategies aligned with organizational goals, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of two in the execution of the Labour Relations mandate, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Labour Relations Expertise: Advise on Labour Relations matters at all levels of the organization, providing expert guidance on labour laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Collective Bargaining: Lead and/or direct collective bargaining negotiations, working towards fair and mutually beneficial agreements that meet the organization's business objectives.
  • Dispute Resolution: Resolve litigation cases, including Labour Board, Human Rights, Health & Safety, grievances, and arbitrations, in consultation with legal counsel, operational managers, and senior leaders.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain positive relationships with union representatives, fostering a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Educate management and HR on evolving labour laws, related regulations, and new trends, ensuring a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Requirements
  • Education: University degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with a proven track record of success in Labour Relations.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal proficiency, knowledge of Labour Relations principles, including collective bargaining and grievance management, conflict resolution, change management, and best Labour Relations practices.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of employment legislation, including provincial Labour Codes, Human Rights Acts, etc.
  • Leadership: Experience developing plans, objectives, and initiatives to achieve and promote the behaviors, culture, and capabilities needed to achieve business strategies and organizational goals.
  • Collaboration: Experience as a strategic partner, building influential relationships with key stakeholders across a large organization.
