Role Summary:
We are in search of a proficient Director of Employee Relations and Labour Management to oversee and direct all facets of personnel matters within our organization. In this role, you will lead a team of HR Business Partners and maintain constructive relations between the organization and its workforce, ensuring adherence to applicable labour laws and regulations while promoting a conducive work atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and execute labour relations strategies and policies that align with the organization's objectives.
- Offer guidance and support to the HRBP team, managers, and supervisors on performance-related issues, including conflict resolution, coaching, feedback, and disciplinary measures.
- Serve as the primary contact or subject matter expert for all labour relations issues, encompassing negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations.
- Lead discussions with union representatives regarding collective bargaining agreements and other labour-related matters.
- Provide counsel and assistance to the HRBP team, management, and employees on labour relations topics, including the interpretation of collective agreements and labour legislation.
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of grievances and disputes in a fair and timely manner, fostering conflict resolution and maintaining positive employee relations.
- Stay updated on changes in labour laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
- Collaborate with HR, legal advisors, and senior management to devise strategies for managing labour-related risks and challenges.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other communications regarding labour relations for senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Labour Relations Manager, ideally in contracted services, manufacturing, or a multi-union environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian labour laws, human rights, and employment regulations.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to cultivate effective relationships at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in managing and mentoring team members.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems (Dayforce is an asset) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possession of a class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience in interpreting and applying collective agreements.
- Prior experience in bargaining and contract negotiations.
- Familiarity with grievance, mediation, and arbitration processes.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
