Job Title: Director of Urban Planning and Development

Join the City of Toronto as a Director of Urban Planning and Development and play a key role in shaping the city's development review process.

About the Role

The Director of Urban Planning and Development will lead the development review process, ensuring that it is efficient, effective, and customer-focused. This role will require strong leadership and project management skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development review process, ensuring that it is aligned with the city's strategic objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the development review process.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to program management staff, ensuring that they have the necessary tools and resources to perform their duties effectively.
  • Represent the Executive Director at various meetings and provide strategic advice on development review process-related matters.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including members of Council, unions, and industry representatives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the development review process, including portfolio management and business transformation methodologies.
  • Establish system-level reporting standards and tracking tools to monitor the development review process.
  • Lead quality assurance functions to ensure standardization, compliance, and effective service delivery.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in urban planning, public administration, or a comparable field.
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale transformational change initiatives and delivery of programs that create service improvement and efficiencies.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly developed sense of discretion, judgment, and political acumen to deal with sensitive matters.
