POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager, the Foreman is tasked with overseeing and directing a team of workers to successfully execute projects while achieving corporate and project objectives. The Foreman is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, profitability, and adherence to schedules, ultimately leading to client satisfaction.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Examine all contracts, project documentation, and plans to confirm that fieldwork aligns with the latest specifications and scope.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to pre-plan work activities, including safety action plans.
- Organize daily operations for the assigned project, ensuring adequate resources are available for timely task completion, including labor, equipment, and materials.
- Accountable for crew performance in relation to company objectives, safety audits, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Conduct tailgate meetings and initiate follow-up actions as needed, including training and disciplinary measures.
- Hold daily briefings with the crew to discuss production targets, performance feedback, safety, schedules, and potential hazards while encouraging input from team members.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety by modeling best practices, providing education, and enforcing company policies.
- Ensure all field personnel have access to and utilize appropriate safety equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, General Contractor, and clients to ensure high levels of satisfaction.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to align work goals and expectations.
- Perform various administrative tasks, including production reports, timesheets, equipment logs, inspection reports, change orders, and project file updates.
- Execute other related administrative or project-based duties as assigned.
- Provide guidance and training to all crew members.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
The ideal candidate for this position will exhibit the following qualifications and skills:
- Proven leadership and supervisory capabilities.
- Ability to organize, develop, and communicate schedules and objectives to team members.
- Strong customer relations skills.
- Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Capable of performing physical tasks in a field environment, including lifting and bending.
- Safe handling of hand and power tools.
- Excellent vision and hearing abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead a team and motivate workers.
- Sound judgment and clear direction.
- Effective teamwork as a contributing member.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's license or equivalent.
- High School Diploma is advantageous.
- Experience in the railway sector is preferred, but construction experience will also be considered.
- Certification in CROR is beneficial, but training will be provided.
- Training in First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space, CSTS, and other mandatory courses as required.
