Job Description

Partner Staffing is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Wildlife Biologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and managing field monitoring programs, ensuring they are completed safely and within budget, schedule, and work scope.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and Supervise: Lead and mentor a team of wildlife professionals to ensure operational excellence and compliance with company safety and HR policies and procedures.
  • Field Program Execution: Execute field programs safely and within budget, schedule, and work scope with a high level of technical capability.
  • Training and Coaching: Train and coach team members on safe work performance, work planning, quality data collection, and strong technical performance.
  • Mentorship: Mentor team members in support of their professional development.
  • Client Relationships: Build strong relationships with clients and ensure all site access and activities comply with site requirements.
  • Field Scheduling: Manage field schedules, adjusting plans and tasks when required, and approving short-term time-off requests.
  • Safety Culture: Support the COR-certified HSE program through day-to-day communication of safety messages, oversight, responding to near misses and incidents, and support investigations as needed.
  • Technical Leadership: Participate in field programs to provide team support either as scheduled or when emergent needs arise.
  • Environmental Data Management: Provide environmental data quality assurance and control, and database management.
  • Habitat and Species Modeling: Must have habitat and species modeling experience.
  • Experience and Qualifications: 8 years of post-graduate experience in a consulting environment or equivalent. Registered as a Professional Biologist in Alberta or BC. Ability to manage budgets, logistics, and resources. Experience presenting technical material to clients, regulators, communities, stakeholders, and the public.

About the Opportunity:

Our client is seeking a Senior Biologist to join their team. Preference is for candidates to be based out of Fort St James, Fort St John, and Prince George, BC. However, we will consider candidates that reside outside of these areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Field Coordination and Project Management: Leading and joining field teams in various disciplines (wildlife, birds, fish, aquatic habitat, water quality, vegetation, soils, wetlands, environmental monitoring, sediment, and erosion control).
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation plans, and proposals. Assisting in preparing and obtaining regulatory approvals for a wide variety of projects such as transportation, renewable energy, mining, oil, and gas, etc.
  • Senior Level Responsibilities: Field Coordination and Project Management, Technical leadership and mentorship within a team environment, Promoting a strong safety culture and working collaboratively within corporate culture.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: A minimum of a B.Sc. in Biology or related discipline with five years' experience, and RPBio, PBiol, and/or P.Ag. designation or eligibility.
  • Courses and Certifications: Electrofishing Certification (approved by WorkSafe BC), Fish identification, Bird survey methodology and bird identification, Amphibian salvage methodology and amphibian identification, Erosion and Sediment Control, Plant identification.
  • Skills and Experience: Sound knowledge of field techniques and regulatory standards necessary for conducting a variety of field activities (i.e., wildlife assessments, bird surveys, water quality, fisheries inventories/ salvage, environmental monitoring/inspection). Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management skills and physically fit. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent writing and communication skills, desire to grow business, and work closely (both in a field lead and support role) with other environmental professionals, environmental discipline leads, and First Nations.
