About the Role

As a key member of the Chief Financial Team, you will leverage financial foresight to enhance housing affordability. In the role of Senior Specialist in Financial Reporting, your analytical acumen, expertise in financial reporting, and ability to provide strategic financial guidance to management will position you as an ideal candidate for this opportunity. Your experience with implementing new requirements related to accounting standards under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) will be invaluable in our mission to make housing affordable for all Canadians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Offer strategic insights to management regarding financial outcomes, accounting policies, intricate accounting issues, and external audit matters to facilitate informed financial decision-making by management, Audit Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Develop precise and comprehensive accounting records and reconciliations pertaining to the Corporation's financial standing, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory standards while maintaining robust internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review CMHC's annual consolidated financial statements, quarterly financial reports, and other governmental submissions in accordance with IFRS and standards mandated by Treasury Board, the Financial Administration Act, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Act, and the National Housing Act.
  • Identify and execute process enhancements.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Analysts and Specialists.
  • Collaborate on diverse projects as the finance expert, including new program/product implementation, new accounting standard impact assessments, and the implementation of new tools.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • A professional accounting designation (minimum Chartered Professional Accountant).
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in financial reporting or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing new accounting policies, assessing impacts, and drafting comprehensive memos on complex accounting matters.
  • Proven project management and cross-functional team leadership skills, with experience in managing multiple ongoing and competing projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial, legislative, and regulatory environments.
  • Exceptional ability to gather and analyze information, synthesize key elements, and summarize with actionable recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, influencing, negotiation, and networking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • An MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or any other relevant professional certification.
  • A solid understanding of complex IFRS standards.
