Safety Data Management Systems Project Manager

The City of Calgary is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Data Management Systems Project Manager to lead the development and implementation of a new system that will revolutionize how we approach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

This transformative project will involve collaborating with internal and external partners to create a comprehensive SDMS used by every City employee. As the Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this initiative.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of essential project documentation, including business cases, charters, plans, schedules, scope statements, and deliverables. Provide recommendations and secure approvals for any changes to these elements, ensuring alignment with the City's safety strategy and business requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Information Technology (IT) to ensure seamless integration of the new system with existing IT infrastructure.
  • Manage the project budget effectively, identify and assess potential risks, develop mitigation plans, and implement necessary actions to keep the project on track.
  • Work with Supply Management to initiate and lead the selection process for external vendors/consultants. Prepare comprehensive documents such as tender specifications, RFPs, or RFQs.
  • Provide clear direction to your project team members, assign responsibilities, monitor progress, assess the quality of work, and offer constructive feedback. Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and contribute effectively to the project's success.
  • Facilitate productive planning sessions, brainstorming activities, focus groups, and one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders, including the project sponsor, project team members, and external organizations/vendors.
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations to staff at all levels of the organization. Provide regular project status updates, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies to relevant parties, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.
Your Qualifications:
  • A degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field, coupled with a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate, and at least 5 years of experience leading and managing multiple multidisciplinary projects.
  • OR A degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field, enrolled in the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate program, and at least 8 years of experience leading and managing multiple multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience in Occupational Health and Safety or familiarity with Incident Management Databases is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders and vendors. Proven ability to prepare and deliver high-quality reports and presentations for senior management or executives.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills to drive teams towards achieving strategic business unit objectives under tight deadlines and competing demands.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet critical deadlines.
