Job Summary

The School Nurse is a vital member of the Natrona County School District team, responsible for providing healthcare services to students and supporting their educational success. This role requires a skilled and compassionate nurse who can work effectively with students, parents, and school staff to promote health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide acute, chronic, and routine nursing care to students, including trachea care, tube feeding, nebulizer treatments, and vision, hearing, and dental screenings.
  • Monitor and evaluate student health, including height, weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs, to identify health-related barriers to learning.
  • Collect and document health information for students, including manual and electronic records.
  • Act as a first responder in medical emergencies, providing emergency care, CPR, and first aid as needed.
  • Provide student health assessments and evaluations, including at-risk students and special education evaluations.
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents regarding students with diagnosed medical concerns, in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain student immunization records and ensure district compliance with Wyoming Immunization Law.
  • Act as a liaison between school staff, home, health, and community agencies to provide resource information and collaborative communication on student health needs.
  • Report suspected child abuse to the Department of Family Services, in accordance with NCSD policy and Wyoming state statutes.
  • Administer student medications, as prescribed by licensed healthcare professionals and in accordance with NCSD policy and guidelines.
  • Train and supervise school staff on administering student medications, as needed.
  • Conduct health-related presentations to educate students and staff on maintaining healthy lifestyles.
  • Develop health objectives for student Individualized Education Plans and Individualized Health Plans.
  • Interpret student medical data to students, parents, and staff, providing understandable information and clear direction.
Requirements
  • Possess and maintain current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.
  • Hold a current Permit or Certificate issued by the Wyoming Department of Education, preferred.
  • Must possess a Baccalaureate degree (B.S.) in Nursing from an accredited four-year college or university.
