As a key member of our infrastructure management team, you will be responsible for maintaining contracted assets, including roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation, in accordance with standards and conditions specified in the contract.


Key Responsibilities
  • Winter Season:
  • Removal of snow and ice using snow removal equipment.

  • Summer Season:
  • Maintenance and repair of highway and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors, litter and debris removal.
  • Operation of vehicles and equipment as required for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair, repair/maintenance of slopes, berms, culverts, drains, etc., to control vegetation appearance and growth.

  • As Required:
  • Traffic control setup and removal.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Availability for emergency response as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Effective communication (in English) with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Basic mathematical functions.
  • Consistent adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and interpretation of documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work in an environment with changing demands and priorities.
  • Operation of hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, and other types of equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair.
  • Highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability.
  • Recognition of hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and ability to make adjustments to avoid loss, injury, or accident.
  • Communication of safety instructions to co-workers.
  • Clear thinking and focus on safety in immediate surroundings while using tools and equipment, driving, or operating equipment.
  • Wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the job.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, maintenance, or landscaping (outdoor work).
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of training in traffic control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, and job-related aspects of Occupational Health.

Work Conditions/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk on a wide range of surfaces; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use of manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric powered tools and equipment. Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fume or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, frequent exposure to insects, and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be more than moderate on occasion.
