Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Youth Care Practitioner to join our team at The Link. As a key member of our Healing Home program, you will be responsible for providing ongoing, culturally sensitive care to youth in our care. Your primary focus will be to be a positive role model, intervene purposefully into the young person's daily life events, and help them reach their agreed-upon goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be aware of the whereabouts of the youth at all times, adhering to program dictates and policies.
  • Interact with youth in a manner designed to help them achieve their goals, promoting a positive and supportive environment.
  • Facilitate wake-up, bedtime, and other daily routines, ensuring a smooth and efficient daily schedule.
  • Develop, manage, facilitate, and direct all daily program activities, aligning with the organization's standards and expectations.
  • Transport youth to appointments and activities as required, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Provide direction, support, and participation in daily chores or tasks with the youth, promoting a sense of responsibility and teamwork.
  • Develop and implement household routines in conjunction with the Program Supervisor, maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
  • Record keeping and report writing as required, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Distribute and track medications as outlined by Provincial Licensing Standards, prioritizing the health and safety of the youth.
  • Provide first aid interventions as required, responding promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Observe, evaluate, and record daily life events according to the program recording procedures, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the youth's needs and progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure consistency in the youth's experiences, daily goals, and care plan, promoting a cohesive and supportive environment.
  • Meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning, maintaining a healthy and safe living environment.
  • Maintenance and cleaning of the home, indoors and outdoors, ensuring a clean and safe living space.
  • Ensuring all health and safety standards are being met, prioritizing the well-being of the youth and staff.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or a combination of education, work experience, and lived experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth, demonstrating a strong understanding of their needs and challenges.
  • Knowledge of trauma and resilience-informed care, promoting a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and experience in de-escalation, responding effectively to challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, promoting a positive and respectful environment.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C certification, prioritizing the health and safety of the youth.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months.
  • ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and De-escalation training preferred, demonstrating a commitment to providing high-quality care.
  • Mental Health First Aid & Safe Talk will be considered an asset, promoting a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an asset, promoting cultural sensitivity and understanding.
