Position Overview:

A Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for executing both minor and extensive repairs, overhauls, and maintenance of various rail maintenance machinery, attachments, and material handling devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting both minor and major repairs on equipment.
  • Performing overhauls and servicing on a wide range of rail maintenance machinery, utilizing electric and oxy-acetylene welding tools, lubrication systems, and other repair apparatus.
  • Documenting repair details on specified forms in line with established protocols.
  • Maintaining regular communication with management and collaborating closely with team members.
  • Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Executing repairs outdoors in various weather conditions at different times throughout the day.
  • Operating and upkeeping a service vehicle in compliance with operational standards.
  • Carrying out additional tasks as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with electric and gas welding equipment.
  • Must possess an interprovincial red seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification or equivalent; experienced 4th year apprentices may be considered.
  • Required to have personal hand tools up to 1 1⁄4".
  • Ability to lift weights up to 50lbs.
  • Willingness to travel within specified regions on an assigned work schedule.
  • Must hold a valid Class (5) Driver's License.
