William Osler Health System is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Addiction Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing comprehensive support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction.

As an Addiction Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Patient Care: Conducting thorough patient screenings, intakes, assessments, and crisis interventions. You will develop individualized treatment plans, provide counseling sessions, and facilitate discharge planning to ensure a smooth transition for patients.
  • Operational Support: Contributing to the daily operations of our facility by preparing meals and participating in monthly staff meetings.
  • Collaboration and Education: Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, agencies, and organizations to provide holistic care. You will also have opportunities to educate patients and their families about addiction and available resources.

To excel in this position, you will require:

  • A minimum of three years of experience working in the addiction field.
  • An associate's degree in health or social services with a focus on addiction, or equivalent relevant experience and academic credentials.
  • Demonstrated expertise in screening and assessing patients for appropriate non-medical withdrawal services.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the effects of alcohol and substance withdrawal.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification and non-violent crisis intervention training.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario substance abuse treatment system and knowledge of gambling treatment is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and computer skills.
