About the Opportunity

The City of Red Deer is seeking a dedicated Municipal Enforcement Officer to contribute to maintaining public safety and order within our community. This role involves enforcing municipal bylaws and provincial statutes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting awareness among residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce municipal bylaws and provincial statutes related to public spaces, parks, and transit systems.
  • Investigate complaints, issue warnings or citations as necessary, and prepare bylaw file documentation.
  • Provide education and awareness programs to the public regarding relevant regulations and ordinances.
  • Assist police officers with tasks such as serving legal documents, handling stolen or lost property, and conducting joint patrols.
  • Conduct proactive patrols of parks, transit systems, and other designated areas to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in law enforcement, conservation enforcement, criminology, or a recognized police academy is preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in bylaw or police enforcement.
  • Completion of Emergency First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS certifications.
  • Ability to obtain RCMP clearance (prior to employment).
  • Successful completion of training in defensive tools (Oleoresin Capsicum spray and expandable batons).
  • Proficiency with GPS and GIS technology.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license and successful completion of defensive driving training.
  • Ability to obtain Community Peace Officer – Level 1 Status.
  • Successful completion of the P.A.R.E. physical testing within the prescribed time frame.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with office suite software.
