The Department of Industrial Engineering at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier 1 NSERC Canada Research Chair in Digital Twin Engineering for Ocean Industries. This prestigious position is part of the Canada Research Chair Program, which aims to attract outstanding researchers to the Canadian university system.
The successful candidate will lead cutting-edge research in Digital Twin Engineering for Ocean Industries, developing advanced Decision Support Systems (DSS) to support sustainable human uses of ocean spaces. This will involve applying industrial engineering methodologies, including operations research, systems engineering, and simulation, to offshore technologies and AI techniques such as Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Deep Reinforcement Learning.
The Chair will collaborate with the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) and other research initiatives to advance the state of the art in Digital Twin Engineering for Ocean Industries. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leadership in multidisciplinary and collaborative research, with a focus on ocean industries or related skills in operations research, systems engineering, and/or simulation of industrial systems.
The Department of Industrial Engineering at Dalhousie University is a world leader in ocean research, with a strong research environment and a rich history of innovation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of researchers and students, and to contribute to the development of the next generation of engineers and researchers.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field, and will be registered as a professional engineer in Canada or eligible for registration in Nova Scotia. The Chair will be expected to provide a scientifically groundbreaking, practice-oriented, and fruitful research program, with a strong focus on knowledge mobilization and impact.
The application process will begin on October 21, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. The successful candidate will be expected to start on July 1, 2025. Please note that the offer of this tenured position is conditional on a successful Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Digital Twin Engineering for Ocean Industries application.
