CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TECHNOLOGIST:

($67, $78,694.16 Annually)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Construction Project Technologist, under the guidance of the designated Manager, is tasked with ensuring that all initiatives undertaken by BC Housing adhere to the relevant Design and Construction Standards. This role involves conducting thorough reviews of plans and specifications, performing site inspections throughout the construction phase, and providing essential contract administration services. Additionally, the Project Technologist oversees the activities of inspectors, architects, various consultants, and general contractors to ensure compliance and quality.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • A diploma in building, engineering, or architectural technology, or equivalent qualifications to be recognized as an Applied Science Technologist (Graduate of an accredited building technology diploma program).
  • Extensive progressive experience as a technologist, including a background in contract administration and building inspections, along with significant familiarity with industry-standard construction contracts.
  • Comprehensive training in project management, building envelope principles, industry standards, regulatory requirements, construction contract administration, and best construction practices.
  • Alternatively, a combination of education, training, and experience that meets the employer's standards.
  • Eligibility for designation as an Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Architect, Architectural Technologist, or AScT (Applied Science Technologist) or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of architectural and building technology and systems.
  • Strong familiarity with the BC Building Code, municipal approval processes, and applicable regulatory standards and policies.
  • Proficient in utilizing MS Office applications and construction-related software or other relevant business applications.
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong organizational, creative thinking, and innovative skills.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and relationship management abilities.
  • Capability to read, review, analyze, and critique construction drawings and building envelope assessment reports.
  • Proficiency in estimating construction costs for new builds, renovations, and building envelope repair projects.
  • Ability to provide guidance and leadership to consultants and staff regarding design and construction standards and contract administration.
  • Capacity to exercise sound judgment and demonstrate initiative.
  • Willingness to travel for Commission-related business and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • A valid BC Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
