POSITION SUMMARY

The Construction Project Specialist, under the guidance of the designated Manager, is tasked with ensuring that all initiatives developed and managed by BC Housing adhere to the relevant Design and Construction Standards. This role involves conducting thorough plan and specification evaluations, performing site inspections throughout the construction phase, and delivering contract administration services. Additionally, the specialist oversees the activities of inspectors, architects, other consultants, and general contractors.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

A diploma in building, engineering, or architectural technology, or equivalent qualifications to be recognized as an Applied Science Technologist (Graduate of an accredited building technology diploma program). Extensive progressive experience as a technologist, including a background in contract administration and building inspections, along with significant exposure to industry-standard construction contracts. Comprehensive training in project management, building envelope principles, industry standards, regulatory requirements, construction contract administration, and recommended construction practices. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that meets the employer's standards. Eligibility for designation as an Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Architect, Architectural Technologist, or AScT (Applied Science Technologist) or CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

In-depth knowledge and understanding of architectural and building technology and systems. Strong familiarity with the BC Building Code, municipal approval processes, and applicable regulatory standards and policies. Proficient in utilizing MS Office applications and construction software or other relevant business applications. Excellent critical thinking and decision-making capabilities. Strong organizational, creative thinking, and innovative skills. Effective communication, interpersonal, and relationship management abilities. Competence in reading, reviewing, analyzing, and critiquing construction drawings and building envelope assessment reports. Ability to estimate construction costs for new builds, renovations, and building envelope repair projects. Capability to provide direction and leadership to consultants and staff regarding design and construction standards and contract administration. Sound judgment and initiative in decision-making. Willingness to travel for Commission-related business and work during evenings and weekends as necessary. A valid BC Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.
