About the Role

Interior Health Authority is seeking a seasoned professional to fill the position of Section Head, Health Information Processing. This is a full-time permanent role based in Kelowna.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and coordination of the section, ensuring high efficiency and quality results within allocated resources.
  • Supervise and provide related training/orientation to staff and students of the section.
  • Develop, monitor, and implement policies and procedures for the section.
  • Schedule and coordinate work assignments, determine related training and orientation requirements, and prepare/administer performance evaluations for section staff.
  • Interview and make recommendations to the Professional Practice Leader for recruitment of staff.
  • Monitor staffing levels and workload patterns, ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained in the section.
  • Act as a technical/clinical resource to staff in the section, responding to queries, recommending/implementing best practices.
  • Provide budgetary input to the Professional Practice Leader, monitor and report on operating expenditures, and demonstrate fiscal accountability.
  • Ensure routine and formalized maintenance programs are carried out on all departmental equipment.
  • Participate in safety programs at the site, following safety procedures and promoting safe work practices.
  • Provide direction for optimizing services for the section, ensuring that services comply with current legislation, professional standards, and organizational policies.
  • Develop and foster effective relationships with colleagues and peers within Interior Health Authority and external agencies.
  • Provide input to the Professional Practice Leader on matters such as departmental planning, monitoring, and decision-making.
  • Lead the strategic and tactical planning for the section, developing goals, objectives, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of new approaches to care and service delivery in the field of practice.
  • Advocate for changes in practice that have the potential to benefit patient care and service delivery.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Health Information Practitioners.
  • Three years recent related experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certified by the Canadian College of Health Information Management as a certificant.
  • Eligible for active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association.

  • Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills, including the use of Meditech and Windows-based programs.
